Cornhusk Dolls

Cornhusk dolls have been made by Northeastern Native American tribes for more than a thousand years. The dolls were used in ceremonial healing rites as well as a teaching tool for children. Dressed as warriors or women, they would be provided with all the accessories as the gender may require. This would allow a child to learn and prepare for the necessary skills needed for everyday life. Cornhusk dolls were not traditionally made to last and fell apart over time, a sign that the child was growing up.
